  • All units are supplied with a Complete Charging System for the vehicle or boat, which when installed correctly, will allow for a recharge time of 2 – 4 hours and never let your vehicles starting battery go flat as it automatically separates the Thumper from the starting battery when the motor is not running.
  • Each Thumper unit consists of multiple 12 Volt AGM cells (Absorbed Glass Matt) linked together in parallel for the super fast recharge time.
  • The batteries are maintenance free and will not leak or gas when charging; perfect for use inside the vehicle or enclosed areas.
  • Unlike many batteries on the market, the Thumper does not hold a ‘memory’,which means that at any stage, regardless of the state of charge the Thumper may be recharged or discharged, without affecting the life of the unit which is approximately 5-7 years after which the units can be re-packed and given a brand new 2 year warranty.
  • The entire Thumper range goes through a marinising process, which will protect the unit from corrosion against salty air and harsh environments – making it the perfect option for Marine use!

Choosing Your Thumper

What size Thumper do I need and how do I work it out?

Step one -  Find the average amps per hour 'A/H' consumption for all of the 12v accessories you would like to operate then add them together.
(You will find the Amp Hour rating either printed on the 12v device or in the operators handbook)

What is an Amp Hour?

An amp hour is the rated consumption of an appliance over one hour. If you had a 105 A/H Thumper and you discharged the unit using a fluorescent light thatdraws 1 Amp per hour the unit would last for a duration of 105 hours before needing recharging.

Step two - Multiply the total Amp hours you calculated above by how many hours you would like your accesories to run for.

Example: Peter and Mary have a 12v Fridge that draws 2 A/H and a 12v Flourecent Light that draws 1 A/H and they want to power them
continuosly for 48 hours  without charging. Firstly they would calculate their total power consumption like this - Fridge 2 A/H + Light 1 A/H = 3 A/H.
Next they would  take their 3 A/H consumption and multiply by 48 Hours = 48 x 3 A/H = 144 A/H
Peter and Mary would go for the 105 A/H Thumper.

If they then wanted the their system to run for longer they would need to recharge the unit by: Running the engine, Solar Panels a Generator or 240v Battery Charger.

Take into account that driving will be recharging your Thumper for example 1 hour of driving you will have put 25% charge back into your battery.

The Chart above is a great help in choosing the correct Thumper

Installing Your Thumper Battery System

Installing your new Thumper is Easy!

First mount the included Isolator under the bonnet close to the Starting Battery then connect the RED wire to the (+ Positive) terminal of your Starting Battery, the Black Wire needs to be attached to the body of your vehicle or the earth terminal of your Start Battery.

The last wire goes to a circuit in the vehicle that is active when the key is switched to the on position. (If you don't know how to find this circuit an easy solution is to install everything else then take your vehicle to the local Auto Electrician who will wire it in for you which is a very very simple job for them and shouldn't cost more than $20.

Run the long run of cable to the back of your vehicle or wherever you want to put the Thumper.
Finally mount the rear socket & plug your Thumper into it via the included patch lead.
Plug in your fridge into the Thumper. You are finished! EASY!

What is Thumper?

The Thumper range is designed to take the place of, or even work alongside a dual battery system in the vehicle, boat etc. They are the perfect option for those who either have no space for a traditional dual battery system or would like to have the freedom of a portable dual battery system that can be easily seperated from the vehicle with a massive spike protected jumpstarting capability. Most commonly used for powering 12 volt refrigerators & lighting although the applications stretch only as far as your imagination.

Is jump-starting my vehicle safe?

YES! Jump starting with the Thumper range is perfectly safe for both the unit and your vehicle. The Thumper range is completely spike protected which means that you will not incur any of those nasty voltage spikes which could potentially fry a vehicle's internal circuits and cause you thousands of dollars in vehicle repairs.

Will the Thumper start my diesel?

Yes. Each of the Thumper units hold a differing CA output, which means that the cranking ability varies between the sizes of each unit. *Please refer to the table below which indicates the cranking ability that each unit holds

What Type of Batteries are used in the Thumper Range?

Each Thumper unit consists of multiple 12 Volt AGM cells (Absorbed Glass Matt) linked together in parallel for the super fast recharge time. The batterys are 100% maintenance free and will not leak or gas when charging; perfect for use inside the vehicle or enclosed areas. The AGM batteries allow for not only deep cycling but they additionally allow for the massive cranking ability. The cells like to charge at a voltage rate between 13 - 14 Volts, which means that they are fully capable of charging via the supplied vehicle charging kit.

Your Thumper unit is completely recharged before delivery.

The condition of the cells can be checked by pressing the push button on the front of the unit to illuminate the blue LCD display gauge. Cross-reference the gauge against the voltage readings on the sticker above to determine the remaining voltage available. The gauge has an

Will they leak or spill?

No. The AGM batteries completely sealed batterys, meaning that you will not have to worry about the cells leaking acid, fuses, gases or any nasty odours. Due to the fact the batteries are completely sealed, it allows for the batteries to be stored on any one of their sides even upside-down while working to full efficiency!

Can I store the unit in a non-ventilated area, such as under a bed?

Yes. Considering that the batteries are completely sealed it means that the batteries do not require a ventilated area for storage. This results in the perfect battery to have stored in an out of the way area such as under a bed in a caravan or under a vehicle's seat, even in a draw in the back of 4WD!

Do the batteries hold a memory?

Unlike many batteries on the market, the Thumper does not hold a ?memory?, which means that at any stage, regardless of the state of charge the Thumper may be recharged or discharged, without affecting the life of the unit which is approximately 5-7 years after which the units can be re-packed and given a brand new 2 year warranty

Explain In Vehicle Charging?

All units are supplied with a Complete Charging System for the vehicle or boat, which when installed correctly, will allow for a recharge time of 2 – 4 hours and never let your vehicles starting battery go flat as it automatically seperates the Thumper from the starting battery when the motor is not running.

Your Thumper will be supplied with a 20 Amp In Vehicle Charging System. The charging kit is designed to be hard mounted into the vehicle and when installed correctly; this kit will provide a charge rate of up to 20 Amps depending on the unit’s requirements and the vehicle’s alternator.
Your Thumper can be continuously connected to the vehicle charging kit without risk whilst simultaneously providing power for on-board accessories (for example – car fridge) if desired.

(We do not recommend charging the unit straight from a vehicle's cigarette socket, as the unit will never reach full charge)

Can I charge my unit and discharge it at the same time?

YES! This is the perfect way to use your Thumper. All connections on the Thumper may be used for recharging or discharging.

How to Install the in vehicle charge kit?

Installation is easy: From the Isolator pictured above attach the RED wire to the (+ Positive) terminal of your main battery, the Black Wire needs to be attached to the body of your vehicle or the earth terminal on you battery. The BLACK wire goes to the accessories switch or wire, this is the one that makes your radio etc, turn on when you switch on the ignition. (If you don't know where this is an easy solution is to install everything else then take your vehicle to the local Auto Electrician who will wire it in for you which is a very very simple job for them and shouldn't cost more than $20. Run the long run of cable to the back of your vehicle or wherever you want the Thumper Battery mount the socket & plug your Thumper Battery into the hella socket. Plug in your fridge into the Thumper. You are finished! EASY! Of course if you need help you can call us anytime night or day on as we know how it is when you are on a mission to get your new toy fitted. Remember to watch the install video by clicking here.

Explain Charging from a 240v Source?

Your Thumper can be charged from 240 Volt; however, the charger MUST be regulated or automatic to ensure that the cells are not damaged if accidentally left for extended periods. Simply connect the alligator clamps of your regulated or automatic charger to the Thumper via the 175Amp Anderson connector (Positive to the positive terminal, negative to the negative terminal). For an accurate reading of your Thumper?s state of charge, wait for 30 minutes after disconnecting from the charger as this will allow time for any ?surface charge? to fade.

Can I recharge my unit straight from my generator?

YES! We recommend putting a regulated battery charger between the generator and your unit for a faster recharge and to protect you batteries from the spikes that can occur with Generators charge outputsl

Can I use Solar Panels to charge my unit?

Yes. Solar panels can be used for charging and/or maintaining the Thumper battery packs. Keep in mind that solar panels that are rated at 10 watts or higher must be regulated when connected to any type of battery. This will prevent the solar panel from over-charging the battery and potentially causing damage. We also make panels, check the link below.

Will it run my fridge?

Yes it will and many other appliances also! One of the main accessories in which people use with the Thumpers are 12/240Volt compressor type fridges. As the batteries are deep cycle it allows for the running of accessories even while the battery is charging through vehicle charging, Solar or even 240 Volt! We do not recommend running gas fridges for prolonged durations due to the high power draw (approx 12 + Amps per hour).

Can I use inverters for 240 Volt appliances?

Yes. We now offer a range of Inverters which allows the units 12 Volt power to be converted into 240 Volts for the running of 240Volt appliances. Inverters come in a variety of sizes ranging from 150 watts at 240 Volts through to 3000 watts or more. These units will allow for the running of appliances such a laptop computers, recharging phone and camera batteries to even running TV's, DVD players or even powering tools such as drills and 4 inch angle grinders!

How long will the battery last while running my appliances?

The duration of time that the Thumper will last with running accessories such as a fridge largely depends on the amp draw of the appliance in question. For example: a fridge with an average draw of 1 amp per hour would run for 30 hours with a 30 amp hour unit..

What is an Amp Hour?

Amp hour is the rated capacity of the unit. If a unit holds 60 AH and you discharged the unit using a fluorescent light that draws 1 Amp per hour the unit would last for a duration of 60 hours before needing recharging.

What size Thumper do I need?

To work out the size you need simply multiply the average amp per hour draw of your fridge by the amount of hours you want your fridge to run for. Take into account that if you are driving a little every day your unit will be recharging i.e 1 hour of driving you will have put 25% charge back into your battery. Look at the chart below!

What is the life expectancy of the batteries used?

The AGM cells used in the Thumper range have a life expectancy between 5 - 9 years. The life of the Thumper range largely depends on the method in which the unit is charged. Over 10 years on the market has proved that the life expectancy of the units increase when the units are charged via the provided In car charging kit. When the unit is not in use (discharged regularly), the best method of maintaining the battery is leaving the unit connected to its In Car kit. This maintains the battery and aids in prolonging the life of the cells used in the battery pack.

What is the warranty of the Thumper?

The Thumper offers a 2-year warranty from the date of your purchase.

What do I do when my cells in my unit die?

Although the Thumper range offers a 2 year warranty and has a life expectancy between 5 - 9 years? We offer our customers the chance to have their unit repacked when the cells do eventually die out! Once a customer has paid for a repack we offer our customers a new 2-year manufacturer warranty on the unit from the date of repack.

Where and how are the Thumper units made?

The Thumper range is proudly South Australian made and owned. Each unit is hand made from start to finish to produce the best portable dual battery system with the highest cranking ability available on market!
